What I mean by "Love".

Even though this blog has been designed to share my first novel with the readers, it's not just about this book. It's also about my love story with America and her people. This country has been under severe world criticism for many years, and we all agree it's not perfect. But I'd like to stand up for my country, the United States of America, and focus on the good she gives to the world. What can you share to this matter?

  1. I had a fun class with my ESL (English as a Second Language) students today. We were discussing what ideas came to their heads once they landed in the U.S. for the first time in their lives. What I heard was amazing: "people were so friendly;" "people smiled at me even though I didn't know them;" "I was scared because I didn't understand English, but many people helped me. It made me feel comfortable;" "I felt freedom." These students are from China, Libya, Kuwait, Egypt, Ukraine and El Salvador -- from all over the world but unanimous in their first American impression. Their comments made me happy today.

  2. This country can be a strange mix of ego and insecurity when it comes to other countries. It is always good to hear that we are putting our best foot forward with these impressionable foreign students....and Elena, you are a very big part of that effort. Thank you for all the good you do! Pam
